Newsletter - April 2006
Over the last few months I have had a lot of trouble with my old computer and the monitor's blue gun wasn't working properly, making everything look as if it was awash in something unmentionable !! Now, I can't get any picture at all and I'm having to use a fairly old laptop. However, I am pleasantly surprised to see how good the photos from the last newsletter now look. For this newsletter I have a number of pictures from Rodney and Edith Knight's recent visit to Majorca but I still have some space limitations and the pictures will load from another site so they may be a little slow to appear. Please have patience, they are worth waiting for !!
Rodney and Edith's pictures are of the ongoing work involved in the excavations for the new subterranean interchange station in Palma and I don't think they need any explanation. Thanks to Rodney and Edith for these excellent illustrations.
You may have heard that the Sóller Railway suffered another mishap in the afternoon of Monday the 20th of March when an electrical fault caused a disruption of service. The Majorca Daily Bulletin, which is an extremely good source of Majorcan news, reported as follows:-
Rodney very kindly sent me scans of the newspaper itself and I hope that the Majorca Daily Bulletin will not mind me showing them to you here:-
I cobbled two scans together to make the larger picture so I just hope I didn't cut anybody in half !!
A video of the Sóller Railway is being transmitted from time to time on the Travel Channel on Sky. It is an extremely good 45 minute program with a great deal of information given in the commentary. A DVD of the program plus a driver's cabview of the line is available at

I've already got mine !! Second person in the list of acknowledgements was Miguel Galmés Schwarz who was, until recently, Director of the Sóller Railway. The new Director is Miquel Socías. I wish him the very best in his new job and I hope we will be able to establish the same good relations that we had with his predecessor.
Apologies for repeating this information but hopefully it will be helpful to anybody finding this newsletter for the first time.
If anyone out there is not already on my "mailing list" and would like to be included, please let me know - there is a clickable link further down the page. Thanks again to my contributors and supporters, any comments on the contents will always be much appreciated.
Watch this site for further developments which will take place whenever new information or pictures come to hand. Any submissions or contributions of information, photos old or new, postcards, books etc., will be very gratefully and enthusiastically received and if used on the site will be suitably acknowledged (as above). The photos, pictures and diagrams used on this site are presented for your information and viewing pleasure only. If any of them should be in copyright violation and the copyright holder would care to notify me I will either remove them or acknowledge the copyright accordingly.
